Obituary of Richard T Rifenberg
Cohoes - It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Richard (Rick) Rifenberg: husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Rick passed away on October 6, 2024, doing what he loved, riding his bicycle. He was happiest being outdoors, seeing the scenery, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. He was a kind, gentle, patient and understanding man who was always there for his family and friends. He was loyal to those he loved; always willing to lend a hand to those in need; and always ready to laugh at his own terrible dad-jokes. He was loved from Albany to the Adirondacks, only because people beyond there weren’t familiar with him. There simply are no words to describe what a wonderful human being he was, nor to describe the vacuum left by his absence.
Rick was born to Edward and Mary Patricia Meixell Rifenberg in March 1960, whom he was predeceased by. He was educated in the North Colonie School District, graduating from Shaker High School in 1978. This was where he ultimately decided to work upon graduation and was there until his early retirement in 1995.
Rick was a devoted husband to Susan Rifenberg, dedicated father to Thomas (Kristen) and Kimberly (Kelden), along with his sidekick Baron, his well-loved German Shepard.
Baby brother of Pam Rifenberg, Peter Rifenberg (Debby), MaryPat Melsheimer (Don) and Ed Rifenberg (Sue). Special brother-in-law to Donna Johnson (Bill), Phil Bluteau (Don), Theresa Bluteau, and Carolyn Connors (Bill) and the late David Bluteau, as well as uncle to many very loved nieces and nephews. Ricks love of bicycles, cars, and model trains led him to meet many friends, none as special as his lifelong friends Russ and Laura Phoenix, Kirk Denney, Fran Smith, Tony Guzek and Mary Maples. Outside of his family, these were the people who brought him the greatest times and greatest joy. Funeral services will be held at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Tuesday October 15, 2024, at 6:30pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local food pantry or animal shelter in his memory.
