Obituary of Rock F. Guerin
Cohoes – Rock Francis Guerin entered eternal life on August 7, 2024, with his family by his side. Rock was born in Cohoes, NY on January 6, 1938, to the late George Guerin, Sr., and Ida (Bressette) Guerin. During his childhood, Rock attended St. Agnes School, Cohoes High School, and Hudson Valley Community College. Rock was employed by Honeywell (formerly Allied Bendix) in Green Island, NY, as a supervisor for 30 years - retiring in 1991. He later accepted a position with Fleet Bank (known today as Bank of America) as an ATM Specialist for 10 years. After retiring from the bank, he was employed by Albany County as Courrier for an additional 10 years. Rock was very talented and was pleased to be a self-contractor with Umbrella of the Capital District aiding seniors. In his retirement years, he enjoyed bowling with the Cohoes Senior Mix League, the Green Island League, and the Troy Senior League. Rock was the 5th Ward Committeemen leader for the Cohoes Democratic Party since 1998 - retiring 2020. He was a member of the Cohoes- Waterford Elks #1317, Cohoes Knights of Columbus Council #192, Cohoes Moose, and a CSEA Union Member. He married the love- of- his- life Marion A. Girard on June 2nd, 1957, and they were blessed to enjoy 67 years together. During their many years spent together they enjoyed vacationing to Myrtle Beach, Cape Cod, and bus trips to Atlantic City and Florida. Most of all, they simply enjoyed being together and day-by-day doing whatever came to their minds. When first married, Rock knew a little about how to build, fix and repair things. Being young and enthusiastic, he quickly learned how to fix things and do what was necessary for his family. We never needed a carpenter, plumber, electrician, or technician. Rock would buy books, study up and take care of the situation at hand. He also loved the challenge of repairing small and large appliances. He was a dedicated and hard-working individual with numerous skills and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He was our Mr. Fix It! He was the devoted father to Joyce (Michael) Skroupa, Joseph (Sandra) Guerin and James (Betty-Ann) Guerin; grandfather to Jason (Jessica) Guerin, Taylor (Kyle) Ebert, Victoria (Nicholas) Huyck, Michael (Meaghan) Skroupa, Jamie (James) Tschinkel, Mikayla Skroupa (Brian) ; proud great grandfather to Lucy Guerin and Giovanni Huyck. Rock is survived by his brother, Richard (Theresa) Guerin and his sister, Mary Lou (Robert) Loiselle; and predeceased by his brother, George (Betty) Guerin, Jr. and his sister, Theresa (William) Savaria. Rock is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the Physicians, Specialists, Nurses, Technicians at Samaritan Hospital 2nd Floor ICU and 4th Floor Pavilion, Troy, NY for their Expertise, Support, and Compassion provided to Rock and his family. A special Thank You to all the Nurses, Physical/Occupational/Aphasia Therapists, Activity Director, Daily and Nightly caregivers at House #21 of the Eddy Village Green, Cohoes, NY for their attentiveness and thoughtful kindness shown Rock.
