Obituary of Barbara A Normile
Cohoes – Barbara A. Normile, 83, of Cohoes passed away at Saratoga Hospital on Sunday July 9, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born in Watervliet and was the daughter of the late Christopher Frederick and Anna Olsey Drescher and her stepmother, Laura Vaillancourt Nolet Drescher. She graduated from Catholic Central High School. She worked for the New York State Commission of Corrections in Albany from 1976 to 2002 before her retirement. Barbara was a long-time member and former President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cohoes/Waterford Elks #1317. When she was initiated into the Order of Elks, she became a long-time dedicated and active member of the Lodge and was highly regarded by all. She was awarded and named Elk of the Year 2011-2012. Barb liked to go to all the Elk Conventions, all over the USA. She liked socializing with her friends having cocktails, she liked to play BINGO, she bowled for many years on the Tuesday Senior Mix Bowling League at the Cohoes Bowling Alley and played Bocci at the Elks. She traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC from the end of December to the end of March for over 30 years. In the spring of 2023, she went on a cruise with her daughter and son-in-law to the Caribbean. Wife of the late Joseph Normile. She is survived by her children, Helen (Alan) Danielson of Ithaca and Tammy Plath (Floyd LaSalle) of Virginia, her grandchildren, Christopher Plath, Christina Plath, Treasurelee Plath and Destiny Plath, great grandmother of Harleigh and Aaron. Sister of Richard (Virginia Hammond) Drescher, Alice (Harold) Burdo, Lorraine (Leslie) Gould and Daniel (Susan Daniels) Drescher and the late Kathleen (Robert) Varin, Gertrude (Perle) Coughenour, Christopher Fred (Irene Benedict) Drescher, Albert Anthony Drescher, Lawrence (Florietta Baker) Drescher, Charles (Marion Harris) Drescher, Carol (Anthony) Wade, Marie (Joseph) Zennaiter, Robert William, Edward Drescher, Gladys (Jerry) Mayo, Edward (Sue Smith) Nolet and George (Mary Claire Bourassa) Drescher. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 9:00am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford. The family will receive friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.
