Obituary of Helen M Thaler
Helen M. Thaler, 98, former resident of Cohoes, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospice, Albany on Monday, February 6, 2023, after a short illness. She was born in Cohoes and was the daughter of the late Frank and Virginia Fortin Dozois. Helen was educated in St. Marie’s School, and Catholic Central High School. She worked for United Traction Co. in Albany, was a bookkeeper at National Furniture in Cohoes, and after many years as a homemaker received her nursing degree and worked as an LPN at Our Lady of Hope Nursing Home. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish, a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne for many years and a Cub Scout Den Mother for 10 years. Helen was devoted to her family and friends. She was adventurous , going snowshoeing and parasailing into her 80s and 90s, she loved camping and traveling, and a good game of pinochle. Upon moving to Columbia Crest Apartments, she developed many new friendships. She was married 68 years to the late Thomas A. Thaler, Jr. ; and was the beloved mother of Thomas A. (Joan) Thaler, III of Cape May Court House, NJ; Kathleen (Donald) Nadeau of Moore, SC; John (Judy) Thaler of Wallingford, CT.; Mark (Connie) Thaler of Nassau, NY; and the late Diane (David) (Mary) Williams of Delmar, NY. Devoted grandmother of Deirdre, Emily, David, Michele, Danielle, Melissa, John, Genevieve, Stephanie, Eric, Ethan, Mary, Kyle, Christian and Caelen; great-grandmother of 10 and great great grandmother of 3. Sister of Raymond (Marie) Dozois of Clifton Park, NY, also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, NY. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford. The family will receive friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Friday from 4 to 7pm. Donations to the Food Pantry at Holy Trinity Parish, 122 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, or the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern NY, 1003 New Loudon Rd., Suite 201, Cohoes in memory of Helen would be appreciated.
