Obituary of Elva E. Shulga
Cohoes – Elva E. Shulga, 95, of Cohoes, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at Albany Medical Center, Albany on Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was born in Troy and moved to Cohoes when she was 5 years old and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Jones Gagnon. She graduated from Cohoes High School and Mildred Elley Secretarial School. Elva worked at Workmen’s Comp in Albany, NYS Division of Parole, Mohawk Paper, Cohoes Memorial Hospital and retired from Samaritan Hospital. She was a past member of Cohoes Hospital Auxiliary, Albany Artist Group, Colonie Art Guild, Troy Arts Guild, Ladies of St. Ann at Holy Trinity Parish, Abram Sara Group, United Church of Cohoes, and Saturday Club of Cohoes. She loved working in the garden with vegetables and flowers, swimming in the pool, playing the organ (self-taught), she learned to read music at 70. She did watercolor paintings, receiving several awards. Wife of the late Frank (Fred) Shulga. Mother of Joseph (Margaret) Shulga of Palm Bay, FL, and Jeanne Marie Rappazzo of Albany. Mother of the late David John Shulga and sister of the late Janet LaPlante. Grandmother of Anne Shulga (Bonni) Johnson, Andrew (Leah) Shulga, Risa Rappazzo, and Robin Rappazzo (Michael Ruggaber), great grandmother of Zoey Shulga and George Johnson, also survived by several cousins. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30am to 11:00am prior to the service. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
