Obituary of Vijai Shankar
Latham – Vijai Shankar, 89, of Latham, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 25, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born and educated in Delhi, India and was the son of the late Prem and Rang Rani Shanker. Before moving to New York, he lived and worked in Kabul, Afghanistan. He moved to New York on Thanksgiving Day 1970 with his wife, son, and daughter. He lived in Flushing, Queens, and Long Island for 51 years before moving to Albany in 2021. He worked as an Insurance Investigator and accountant at Norman Reitman Company in New York City for whom he traveled extensively throughout the country. He loved tennis, cricket, watching game shows and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Bimla Shankar of Latham, his son Ajai (Rachna) Shankar of Latham and his daughter Ritu (Rajeev) Mathur of Syosset, NY. Brother of the late Rejesjwari Sahai, Swaroop Rani Mathur, Viney Shanker and Gopal Shanker. Grandfather of Kavi Shankar, Rishi Shankar, Meena Mathur and Jyoti Mathur, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel and Crematory, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12182 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with cremation to follow.
