Obituary of Joanne J Newell
Cohoes – Joanne Girard Newell left this world surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, January 14, 2022. Born in Cohoes on April 29, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Yvonne Savoie Girard and Wilfred Girard. Her family moved to Albany when she was 6 years old where she attended and graduated from St. Ann’s Academy in 1956. She worked for the Dept. of Tax & Finance for 6 years. She then entered the Insurance industry getting her agents license and joined Geer-Stillman Insurance. Joanne was transferred to MVP in Schenectady until retiring from the insurance business in 2003. In 2004 she returned to the work force joining the Kohl’s family in Clifton Park where she was employed for 9 ½ years. Her favorite pastime was crocheting and knitting, spending time with her family and enjoying fun filled hours with her faithful companion, Max, who gave her lots of pleasure and love. Joanne was predeceased by her loving sister Theresa Girard in 1953 and her brother Carl Girard in 2011. Joanne was the widow of Earl Newell. She is survived by her daughter, Danielle Newell-Emory (beloved son-in-law Rich) of Cohoes, and her son David Newell (Rene Brent) of Florida. She is also survived by her fur grandbaby Molly, her nieces and nephew. Joanne is also survived by her life-time friend Connie Weber of Green Island. Funeral services will be held at the Dufresne Funeral Home, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 6:30pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 7pm prior to the service. Donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or Community Hospice in memory of Joanne Newell. Masks are requested to be worn by all attendees.
