Thomas R. Verburg, age 69, of Latham, NY passed away suddenly yet peacefully at his home Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Born in Troy, he was husband to Madeline Finn-Verburg for 48 years and the son of the late William Sr and Florence Stavish Verburg. Loving father of Michelle (Ernie) Raemer of North Port, Florida, Jennifer (Al) Longtin of Ballston Lake, New York, Christopher (Amanda) Cataldo of Denver, Colorado, and Nicholas (Alie) Verburg of Portland, Oregon. Proud grandfather of Jessica and Devin Campbell and Briana, Joshua, and Gianna Longtin. Brother of William Verburg Jr. of Loudonville, NY. and Wayne Verburg of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Tom graduated from Clarkson University with a B.S. in Engineering. He was a pioneer in the field of digital document imaging and electronic document management and was a Systems Architect for the NYS Department of State for over 40 years before retiring. A distinguished speed skating coach and dedicated outdoorsman, Tom was an avid athlete and enjoyed cycling, skiing, camping, and kayaking among other sports. He coached speed skaters for US Speedskating and was a member of the Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club, Out of Control Ski Club, and numerous speed skating organizations. Tom was extremely proud to coach athletes that went on to join the US Olympic Speed Skating Team and was devoted to Scouting with his son, serving Boy Scout Troop 62 (Twin Rivers Council) for many years. Tom is loved by many and his legacy will continue on in all of the lives that he touched. He will be deeply missed. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
